Improve Indoor Air Quality

While you can’t completely rid your home of toxins or allergens, it is possible to cut down on the amount of dust, mold and germs you breathe in each day. Keep these suggestions in mind to help improve your indoor air quality.

  • Switch out chemical-laden cleaning solutions for natural or DIY supplies.
  • When weather permits, open windows to circulate fresh air throughout the house.
  • Use exhaust fans in the bathrooms and kitchen, and run a dehumidifier during the summer to fight mold-loving humidity.
  • Purchase an air purifier, and decorate with indoor plants to help clean the air naturally.
  • Designate areas for shoes by each entrance to prevent tracking bacteria, pollen and other irritants throughout your home.
  • Replace chemical air fresheners with an essential oil diffuser.
  • Change your HVAC filter every 1-3 months, and test for radon every 1-2 years.
  • Brush your pets often to lessen shedding and eliminate as much dander as possible.
  • Dust, vacuum and mop regularly to prevent dust particles from accumulating.
